Target Pledge: The path to 10 million in two weeks

It is so exciting to see the Target Boycott pledge hit 1 million people. It is a great start but that is all it is is a great start. When you consider that Target has over 110 million customers it will take a lot more than 1 million to make a difference.

How do we get to 10 million in two weeks? It is very hard and very easy at the same time. Simply if everyone who signed the petition shared the link to all of their Facebook friends, Google + circles and other social outlets as well as emailing their friends this could happen in a week. The difficult part is this is unlikely to happen. So I takes all of us who are really concerned about this issue to take spreading the word seriously.

There are two things we need to do. First we need to spread the news about the pledge. Second we need to show people that women and children are actually being put at risk by Targets new bathroom and changing room rules. There are many articles being shared that documents that Target and other retails stores already have a problem with men sneaking into women's bathrooms and changing rooms to take pictures and assault women and children. With most of the media saying that there is no risk people need to here the other side.

When ever you post an update such as the pledge reaching 1 million or Target stock being down 1.5 billion be sure you ad a link to sign the pledge. We also need to encourage our friends to share.

Target Has History of Sexual Assault in Their Bathrooms

Target official know that this issue has nothing to with transgender. Every target store already has a safe bathroom for transgenders. Like all other retail stores Target has a long history of women and children being assaulted in their bathrooms. This is something that every executive at Target knows. They also know that this is a problem at almost every Target location as it is with all other major retail stores. 

This article is the result of an hours worth of searching on the Internet. It documents 25 cases of women and children being abused or filmed in the bathrooms or changing rooms at Target Stores. I did not include the myriad of other stories of sexual assault that happened in Target stores that did not happen in the bathrooms or changing rooms of Target.

I know 3 managers at major retail stores. The have each told me that men sneaking into the women's bathrooms and changing rooms is a problem not only at their stores but all major retail stores. The biggest problem is they almost never get reported to the police. In fact, unless there is an actual physical assault, they all say their companies discourage reporting these events to the police for fear of bad publicity. The question is if some men are willing to sneak into a ladies room when it is against the rules and they have a much higher risk of being caught, how much more of a problem might it becomes okay and accepted.

Here are a few things to think about as your read this article. 

  1. Just as is in the case of rape or other types of assault the majority of women do not report bathroom incursions to the police or store managers. 
  2. The majority of cases that are shared with the police never are reported in the news. I have seen reports that fewer than 1 in one hundred sexual assaults that are reported to the police are reported in the news. 
  3. Research into voyeurism (peeping toms) I did when Washington passed its open bathroom rules showed that the vast majority of peeping toms never get caught. One of the reasons is the the vast majority have never been reported. 
  4. Stores discourage reporting these incidents to the place for fear of the bad publicity it will bring to their stores. 
  5. Last of all. Most men who do these things are not caught the first time they do them. 
So you can imagine if I can find these examples in a simple hour on the Internet just how bad the problem may really be.

Boycott Target pledge reaches 1,000,000

Great news but the work has just begun!

Just 8 days after American Family Association started its Boycott Target pledge program, it reaches 1 million signatures. While this sounds great and is great it is only the beginning. As great as it is, it only represent about 1 percent of Targets shopping base and about 2 to 3 percent of their USA shopping base. To begin to make a difference when need to reach at least 5 million in the next few weeks.
This is an issue that is far to important to give up on. The health and safety of hundreds of million women and children depend on it. It is not only the tens of millions of women and children who go to a Target store that are at risk. If target gets its way other retailers will follow suit.
I have already documented many examples of this type of abuse happening in Target Stores. You can find the article listed to the side. Allowing men to enter women's bathrooms and changing rooms will only make the problem much worse. Every day many men enter women's bathrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms to take pictures, expose themselves or assault women and children in other ways.


If you have not signed the petition, please do. If you have send it to your friends, to your Facebook friends, your Google circles and other social media. If most of us do this we will hit 5 million in less than two weeks.
